CRITERIA FOR A GOOD HYPOTHESIS


Criteria For A Good Hypothesis

The word hypothesis is derived from the Greek word - 'hyposthenia' meaning ' to put under' or 'to suppose'.  The word hypothesis consist of two words' Hypo' and thesis. Hypo' means tentative or subject to the verification and thesis means statement about solution of a problem. So the word- Hypothesis means tentative statement about solution of a problem or Hypothesis means the guesses to solve the research problem(‘Hypotheses’, 2016).
       The word hypothesis means tentative statement about solution of a problem or hypothesis means the guesses to solve the research problem(‘Criteria for a Good Hypothesis f’, n.d.).

Nature of Hypothesis
·         It's is conceptual in nature.
·         It is a verbal statement in a declarative form
·         It has the empirical referent
·         It has a forward or future reference
·         It is the pivot of a scientific research.

Importance Of Hypothesis
·         To the point enquiry
·         Development of research techniques
·         Separating relevant from irrelevant observation
·         Select required fact
·         Direction of research
·         Act as a guide
·         Prevent blind research

Name of hypothesis
Meaning
Example
Simple hypothesis
It is a prediction of the relationship between to variable: the independent variable.
Drinking sugary drinks daily leads to obesity.
Complex hypothesis
It examines the relationship between two or more independent variable and two or more dependents variable.
Over weight adults who one value longevity and two seek happiness are more likely than other adults to one loss their excess weight and to feel a more regular sense of joy.
Empirical hypothesis
It comes to life when a theory is being put to the test, using observation and experiment.  It is no longer just and idea or notion.
Roses watered with liquid vitamin 'B' grow faster than roses watered with liquid vitamin 'C'.
Null hypothesis
It exists when a researcher believes there is no relationship between the two variables, or there is a lack of information two states a scientific hypothesis.
There is no significant change in my health during the time when I drink green tea only or root beer only.
Alternative hypothesis
In an attempt to disprove a null hypothesis, researchers will seek to discover an alternative hypothesisns.
My health improves during the time when I drink green tea only, as opposed to root beer only.
Logical hypothesis
It is a proposed explanation possessing limited evidence. Generally, you want turn a logical hypothesis into an empirical hypothesis, put in your theories to the test.
Cacti experience more successful growth rate than tulips on mar.
